Postcards From Bali

My best friends and I took a trip to Bali to top off the summer. Three and a half weeks seemed like enough time to give us all good reset before settling back into the school year.

When we stepped off the plane and took our first sips of hot humid air, we knew we had landed in the right place, I still find myself craving the thick caressing atmosphere.

Every morning we walked outside to find offerings that the locals had left for the Hindu Gods —

Flowers, sweets, sometimes a cigarette—all on a leaf plate with incense burning nearby.

Imagine being a part of a culture which practices gratitude every morning, first thing when they wake up.

Most days we would walk to breakfast together then make our way to the beach.

Laying on on white sand in the peak heat of the day, next to towering green cliffs, watching shimmering waves roll by, and rinsing off salty sweat in tide pools.

Making up for last night’s Bintangs with fresh coconuts.

Each day ending with a sunset over the ocean.

We explored each edge of the island but always found ourselves drawn back to the Bukit… it felt like home there.

Here are some photos from our trip that intend to capture the feeling of it all. All shot on 35mm film in various cameras, and soaked in different concoctions before they were developed.
