Sometimes it feels like beauty is the only thing keeping you going; New perspectives, ideas, interactions, light. Something that stops you in your tracks, making your insides tick in a way you never thought it could, thats what we all look for isn't it? Well, look no further. These are a few photos and questions answered by photographer Bryanna in Hawaii, someone we like to call a New Light.
How did you get into photography/why do you keep doing it?
I actually began my journey with photography as a photojournalist. After realizing the daily news industry wasn’t for me, I took a break from shooting for a number of years. It wasn’t until the last couple years I have started to really begin to love taking pictures again, now I prioritize shooting things I love and that inspire me.
Whenever I am in the water or discovering new places, with or without my camera, I am constantly wanting to share the beauty I get to experience, taking pictures seems to be the best way I can think of to do that.
What is the best lesson you have learned working in this field?
Patience. This really sums up everything for me, from waiting for perfect wave and wind conditions, to giving myself time to over coming personal obstacles and fears.
What was it like working with Mainei?
Mainei is a one of the most genuine and humble people I have ever met. She is so fun to work with and is up for anything, we worked really well together because we both were really excited thinking of new ideas. Mainei cherishes her Hawaiian roots and is extremely knowledgable about her heritage. It was so incredible to get to learn so much from her and her family.
3 random facts about yourself?
- I grew up in a small suburban town in Ontario, Canada - very far from the ocean.
- I just finished a 3 year diploma program studying holistic nutrition.
- I have been bitten by a gnarly spider, snake, and salt water crocodile (sounds WAY more intense than it was)
What are your goals for 2018?
To keep pushing myself to be a better person, photographer, and friend.
early bird or night owl?
Early bird, I love waking up before the sun comes up, it makes me feel like I am the only person on the planet and it is when I am most productive.
Food(s) you can't live without?
Describe your style?
I don’t really feel like I have a “style”, light is my first love, and my shoots usually revolve around what the light is doing, it totally sets the mood. I love taking pictures of what I can connect with, often involving people and the landscape that inspires the shoot.
Roobios tea ;)
So cliche - “stay postive.” Without a positive attitude I think things are just a whole lot harder, and life is so much more enjoyable when it is less hard!
